Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Lawrence Alma-Tadema achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May last year. In the 19th Century European Art auction, the work On the Roman Staircase sold for USD 113,400.00 (€ 105,675.15) - well above the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Lawrence Alma-Tadema achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work British the Finding Of Moses in November 2010 with an auction result of USD 35,922,500.00 (€ 27,556,382.33).
