Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Kobayakawa Kiyoshi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March 2002. In the JAPANESE AND KOREAN ART auction, the work Kesho (Make-up), no. 2, from the series Kindai jisesho no uchi (Women's manners of today) sold for USD 3,760.00 (€ 4,313.41) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Kobayakawa Kiyoshi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Showa era (1926-1989), 1930 in March last year with an auction result of USD 50,312.50 (€ 45,355.18).
