Auction result well in line with expectations
The work portraits of the two courtesans Segawa and Ichikawa of the Matsubaya by Kitagawa Utamaro was auctioned at Bonhams in London in May this year. The price achieved of GBP 1,280.00 (€ 1,489.29) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Kitagawa Utamaro achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work L'amour évident (Arawaruru koi), portrait en buste (okubi-e) d'une jeune femme s'arrangeant une épingle à cheveux sur fond micacé, de la série Anthologie de poèmes: la section de l'amour, (Kasen koi no bu in May 2018 with an auction result of EUR 381,000.00.

Die Arbeit portraits of the two courtesans Segawa and Ichikawa of the Matsubaya von Kitagawa Utamaro kam im Mai diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in London zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.280,00 (€ 1.489,29) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Kitagawa Utamaro erzielen.
