KITAGAWA UTAMARO (1753-1806)
Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1790
An oban yoko-e print, originally a leaf from a folding album, from the illustrated kyoka anthology Gin sekai (Silver World), depicting a party scene on a snowy winter's night, the revellers being entertained by geisha shown in silhouette behind the shoji (paper sliding door), whilst a waitress shows out a departing geisha on the far left, published by Tsutaya Juzaburo, unsigned; mounted on card. 24cm x 37cm (9 7/16in x 14 9/16in).
