Quarto (340 x 245 mm). 122 colour photographs. Original blue paper covered boards, white spine lettered in blue, original dust jacket printed in black and red with contemporary English distributor price-sticker on the front flap ('Faber 63/-'), original cardboard slipcase (paper near the spine buckling somewhat, dust-jacket with very light rubbing, slipcase wanting some staples).
FIRST EDITION, IN THE RARE ORIGINAL SLIPCASE. Helmer-Petersen's book prefigures the work of Shore and Eggleston by two decades. Helmer-Petersen later taught night classes at the Chicago Institute of Design, counting among his colleagues Siskind, Callahan, and Ishimoto. 'A singular, remarkably early and largely successful attempt to make colour photography work... his aim was to make the kinds of pictures that could only work in colour, and not in black and white'. The Photobook, vol. I, pp.202-03.

A top price for Keld Helmer-Petersen - as previously expected
The work 122 Colour Photographs. Copenhagen: Schoenberg, 1948. by Keld Helmer-Petersen was sold in the Photobooks auction at Christies in London in May 2009. The price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,573.98) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,800.00 – 2,500.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, 122 Colour Photographs. Copenhagen: Schoenberg, 1948. is the most expensive artwork by Keld Helmer-Petersen that we have observed at auctions so far.
