Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Forest floor still lifes with a snake, butterflies, lizards, snails, thistle and convolvulus by Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton was auctioned at Christies in New York in June 2002, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 18,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 65,725.00 (€ 66,685.27). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Forest floor still lifes with lizards, snakes, Painted Lady butterflies, a Red Tiger moth, snails, thistle and convolvulus, which sold at auction in April 2002 for GBP 146,750.00 (€ 237,437.65).
