A top price for Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton
When the work Forest floor still lifes with lizards, snakes, Painted Lady butterflies, a Red Tiger moth, snails, thistle and convolvulus by Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2002, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 146,750.00 (€ 237,437.65). This high result makes Forest floor still lifes with lizards, snakes, Painted Lady butterflies, a Red Tiger moth, snails, thistle and convolvulus the most expensive artwork by Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton that we have observed at auctions so far.
