Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A forest floor still life with a snake, butterflies, snails and a grasshopper; and A forest floor still life with a lizard, butterflies and snails by Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton was sold in the Old Master Pictures auction at Christies in London in July 2003. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 33,460.00 (€ 43,734.48) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Carl Wilhelm de Hamilton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Forest floor still lifes with lizards, snakes, Painted Lady butterflies, a Red Tiger moth, snails, thistle and convolvulus in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 146,750.00 (€ 237,437.65).
