Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work American study For A Portrait Of Paul Wayland Bartlett by Kahlil Gibran was auctioned at Sothebys in Dubai in November 2017, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 12,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 47,500.00 (€ 39,922.68). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Kahlil Gibran - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Amin Rihani, which sold at auction in October 2018 for GBP 92,500.00 (€ 104,311.46).

Als die Arbeit American study For A Portrait Of Paul Wayland Bartlett von Kahlil Gibran im November 2017 bei Sothebys in Dubai versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 12.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 47.500,00 (€ 39.922,68) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Kahlil Gibran mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait Of Amin Rihani beobachtet, die im Oktober 2018 für GBP 92.500,00 (€ 104.311,46) versteigert wurde.
