Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait D'Homme (Study For Un Grand Pardon Breton) by Jules Breton was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,902.55). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jules Breton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work French les Communiantes in May 2016 with an auction result of USD 1,270,000.00 (€ 1,140,547.82).
