In the 19th Century European Art including Important British Paintings auction, the work Polish Four Horse Wagon On A Rainy Day sold for USD 110,500.00 (€ 74,889.87) - well above the upper estimate of USD 40,000.00. Admittedly, works by Jósef Chelmonski have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Midnight Ride in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 337,500.00 (€ 370,552.56).
