This artwork by Jósef Chelmonski achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in New York in November this year. In the European Art | Bonhams Skinner auction, the work The Faithful Mount's Reward framed 42.0 x 50.0 x 1.5 cm (16 1/2 x 19 3/4 x 3/4 in). sold for USD 4,480.00 (€ 4,107.08) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jósef Chelmonski achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Midnight Ride in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 337,500.00 (€ 370,552.56).
