Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Joseph Solman achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in September 2020. In the American Art auction, the work Self-Portrait sold for USD 4,032.00 (€ 3,440.86) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joseph Solman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sewing Basket and Lamp, which sold at auction in March last year for USD 8,925.00 (€ 8,045.61).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Joseph Solman erzielte im September 2020 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion American Art wurde die Arbeit Self-Portrait für USD 4.032,00 (€ 3.440,86) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 1.500,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Joseph Solman mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Sewing Basket and Lamp beobachtet, die im März letzten Jahres für USD 8.925,00 (€ 8.045,61) versteigert wurde.
