Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Joseph Paelinck achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2019. In the European Art: 19th Century & Orientalist Art auction, the work Madonna and child sold for GBP 45,000.00 (€ 53,184.73) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joseph Paelinck; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Orpheus and Eurydice sold at auction in October 2005 with the realized price of USD 72,000.00 (€ 60,025.01).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Joseph Paelinck erzielte im Dezember 2019 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion European Art: 19th Century & Orientalist Art wurde die Arbeit Madonna and child für GBP 45.000,00 (€ 53.184,73) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 20.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Joseph Paelinck; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Orpheus and Eurydice im Oktober 2005 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 72.000,00 (€ 60.025,01).
