Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Apollo Punishes Midas For His False Judgement By Condemning Him To Sport An Ass'S Ears by Joseph Paelinck was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 58,000.00 (€ 39,080.92). Other works by Joseph Paelinck have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in October 2005 by the work Orpheus and Eurydice at USD 72,000.00 (€ 60,025.01).
