Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2013 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work The Barque Humphrey Nelson Flying Her Recognition Flags As She Passes A Three-Masted Merchantman Off A Mid-Ocean Island by Joseph Heard. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,793.33) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Joseph Heard have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Douglas Bay, Isle of Man, c. 1840 in April last year with an auction result of GBP 31,800.00 (€ 37,920.38).
