In November 2005 Christies in London held the auction MARITIME PICTURES, which included the work The Barque Emilia Heading Into Liverpool And Shown In Two Positions Off The Perch Rock Fort And Lighthouse by Joseph Heard. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 15,600.00 (€ 22,918.37), 73% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Joseph Heard; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Douglas Bay, Isle of Man, c. 1840 sold at auction in April last year with the realized price of GBP 31,800.00 (€ 37,920.38).
