In May 2003 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Sunset in the Wilderness by John Williamson. The price achieved of USD 77,675.00 (€ 66,016.49) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Sunset in the Wilderness is the most expensive artwork by John Williamson that we have observed at auctions so far.
