Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work View of a coastline by John White was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2003, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 600.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 1,880.00 (€ 2,745.91). Admittedly, works by John White have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa in October 2015 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 15,735.94).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit View of a coastline von John White im Oktober 2003 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 600,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 1.880,00 (€ 2.745,91) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John White auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa im Oktober 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 11.250,00 (€ 15.735,94).
