This artwork by John White achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2002. In the British Art on Paper including Original Book Illustrations auction, the work Branscombe, Evening after rain sold for GBP 1,997.50 (€ 3,089.68) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Admittedly, works by John White have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa in October 2015 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 15,735.94).

Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John White auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa im Oktober 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 11.250,00 (€ 15.735,94).
