In February 2000 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings, which included the work Branscombe Vale in Spring by John White. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 977.50 (€ 1,599.60), 40% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John White have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa in October 2015 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 15,735.94).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 40 % übertroffen
Im Februar 2000 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Branscombe Vale in Spring von John White zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 977,50 (€ 1.599,60) und damit 40% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John White auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa im Oktober 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 11.250,00 (€ 15.735,94).
