This artwork by John White achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2000. In the British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work Beer beach sold for GBP 1,495.00 (€ 2,446.45) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Admittedly, works by John White have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sketches of some of the Various Classes and Tribes inhabiting the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Interior of South Africa in October 2015 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 15,735.94).
