Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A bridge over the river Trient, near Chamonix, on the border of France and Switzerland by John 'Warwick' Smith was sold in the Dramas of Light and Land: The Martyn Gregory Collection of British Art auction at Christies in London in March last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,024.00 (€ 3,585.29) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John 'Warwick' Smith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work St. Cosimato And Remains Of The Claudian Aqueduct: Situated On The River Anio, 10 Miles Above Tivoli, In The Apennines; And Port Of Terracina, And Ruins Of Anticul Anxur, Situated On The Confines Of The Roman Territories, Entering The Kingdom Of Napl in December 2007 with an auction result of GBP 16,100.00 (€
