Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A market scene at the entrance to a town by John Varley Jnr. was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 4,874.14) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Varley Jnr. - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work British the Mosque Of Khair Bek, Cairo, which sold at auction in June 2010 for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 16,721.28).
