Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2013 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work A Bustling Street Before The Mosque Of Emir Mindar, Cairo by John Varley Jnr.. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,793.33) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Varley Jnr. have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work British the Mosque Of Khair Bek, Cairo in June 2010 with an auction result of GBP 13,750.00 (€ 16,721.28).
