Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2006 Christies in London held the auction British Art on Paper, which included the work Shipping Off Barmouth, North Wales by John Thomas Serres. The price achieved of GBP 1,680.00 (€ 2,494.85) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Thomas Serres achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shipping off Lisbon, a seventy-four Third Rate passing two small craft as she heads out of the Tagus into a squall, with an anchored British frigate off her port beam and the Belém Tower receding astern in February 2005 with an auction result of GBP 84,000.00 (€ 121,810.76).

Im November 2006 führte Christies in London die Auktion British Art on Paper durch, in der auch die Arbeit Shipping Off Barmouth, North Wales von John Thomas Serres zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.680,00 (€ 2.494,85) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.500,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Thomas Serres erzielen.
