Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2011 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work Shipping in the Bay of Naples, Sicily by John Thomas Serres. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,497.05) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Thomas Serres achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shipping off Lisbon, a seventy-four Third Rate passing two small craft as she heads out of the Tagus into a squall, with an anchored British frigate off her port beam and the Belém Tower receding astern in February 2005 with an auction result of GBP 84,000.00 (€ 121,810.76).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Dezember 2011 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours durch, in der auch die Arbeit Shipping in the Bay of Naples, Sicily von John Thomas Serres zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.200,00 – 1.800,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 1.250,00 (€ 1.497,05) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Thomas Serres erzielen.
