It achieved a price of USD 74,500.00 (€ 54,320.09), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 24%. Admittedly, works by John Singleton Copley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of James Tilley (1707-1765) in January 2006 with an auction result of USD 374,400.00 (€ 307,945.39).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Portrait of Colonel Jacob Fowle (1704-78), three-quarter length, with a musket von John Singleton Copley kam im Januar 2011 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 74.500,00 (€ 54.320,09) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 24%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Singleton Copley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of James Tilley (1707-1765) im Januar 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 374.400,00 (€ 307.945,39).
