Sold at the lower estimate price
The work Drapery studies for The Death of Major Peirson; and The Baptism of Saint John the Baptist (recto and verso) by John Singleton Copley was sold in the Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours auction at Christies in London in December 2011. The result of GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,395.28) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Singleton Copley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of James Tilley (1707-1765) in January 2006 with an auction result of USD 374,400.00 (€ 307,945.39).

Die Arbeit Drapery studies for The Death of Major Peirson; and The Baptism of Saint John the Baptist (recto and verso) von John Singleton Copley wurde im Dezember 2011 in der Auktion Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours bei Christies in London versteigert.
