This work of art by John S. Johnston could be acquired at Christies in New York in January 2008 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime Art Including Fine Paintings, Nautical Antiques, Scrimshaw And Ship Models auction, the work Shamrock I at NYYC, 1899; Jessica (and Loyal); Clara; Minerva; and Mariquita changed hands for USD 562.50 (€ 379.02) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by John S. Johnston have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Five photographs of 1895 America's Cup winner Defender in January 2009 with an auction result of USD 4,375.00 (€ 3,416.90).
