Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Defender, 1895; Navahoe; Start of 30s with Esperanza; Mai, 1896; and Hera by John S. Johnston was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 937.50 (€ 631.70). Admittedly, works by John S. Johnston have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Five photographs of 1895 America's Cup winner Defender in January 2009 with an auction result of USD 4,375.00 (€ 3,416.90).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Defender, 1895; Navahoe; Start of 30s with Esperanza; Mai, 1896; and Hera von John S. Johnston im Januar 2008 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 937,50 (€ 631,70) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John S.
