In July 2017 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and British Impressionist Art, which included the work The Temptation of Eve by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 50,000.00 (€ 55,792.32), 43% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Penelope in December 2017 with an auction result of GBP 645,000.00 (€ 725,853.02).
