In May 2004 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT GOLD BOXES,OBJECTS OF VERTU & PORTRAIT MINIATURES, which included the work Sir Arthur Hesilrige (d. 1661), in gilt-studded armour and lawn collar, long brown hair by John Hoskins. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,755.00 (€ 16,136.46), 34% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Hoskins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A gentleman called Inigo Jones, in black gown, white lawn collar with tassels, black skull cap, long curling brown hair, moustache and small pointed beard; pillar and landscape background with castle in the distance, which sold at auction in November 2007 for GBP 36,500.00 (€ 51,109.44).
