Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2012 Christies in London held the auction Centuries of Style: Silver, European Ceramics, Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes, which included the work A gentleman, in gilt-studded armour, white collar, dark curling hair, blue background with gold border by John Hoskins. It changed hands for a price of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 9,344.67) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Hoskins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A gentleman called Inigo Jones, in black gown, white lawn collar with tassels, black skull cap, long curling brown hair, moustache and small pointed beard; pillar and landscape background with castle in the distance in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 36,500.00 (€ 51,109.44).
