Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Study On Long Island Sound At Darien, Connecticut by John Frederick Kensett was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 150,000.00 – 250,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 125,000.00 (€ 102,509.43). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Frederick Kensett achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Entrance to Newport Harbor in December 2005 with an auction result of USD 1,248,000.00 (€ 1,053,876.03).
