Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work The 1828 Doncaster Gold Cup by John Frederick Herring Senior was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January last year. It achieved a price of USD 806,500.00 (€ 719,318.59), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 15%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Frederick Herring Senior - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Start for the Derby, 1834, which sold at auction in May 2005 for GBP 1,105,600.00 (€ 1,632,212.62).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit The 1828 Doncaster Gold Cup von John Frederick Herring Senior kam im Januar letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 806.500,00 (€ 719.318,59) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 15%. Für andere Arbeiten von John Frederick Herring Senior mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Start for the Derby, 1834 beobachtet, die im Mai 2005 für GBP 1.105.600,00 (€ 1.632.212,62) versteigert wurde.
