The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,105,600.00 (€ 1,632,212.62) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Start for the Derby, 1834 is the most expensive artwork by John Frederick Herring Senior that we have observed at auctions so far.
