It achieved a price of USD 233,100.00 (€ 234,648.68), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 17%. Admittedly, works by John Frederick Herring Senior have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Start for the Derby, 1834 in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 1,105,600.00 (€ 1,632,212.62).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Mazeppa von John Frederick Herring Senior wurde im Oktober letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Ann & Gordon Getty Collection: Volume 2 |Old Master, 19th and 20th Century Paintings, Day Sale bei Christies in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 233.100,00 (€ 234.648,68) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 17%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Frederick Herring Senior auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Start for the Derby, 1834 im Mai 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.105.600,00 (€ 1.632.212,62).
