Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Winter Watering by John Edward Costigan was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 18,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 17,500.00 (€ 13,289.79). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Edward Costigan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sheep at the Brook, which sold at auction in September 2011 for USD 43,750.00 (€ 32,530.30).
