In the British, Victorian and Scottish Pictures including Pictures auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, seated three-quarter-length, in a dark grey suit, smoking a cigarette, with a skull on a table before him changed hands for GBP 470.00 (€ 768.33) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Admittedly, works by John David Revel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work At the casino in March 2002 with an auction result of GBP 2,937.50 (€ 4,802.04).
