In the British, Victorian and Scottish Pictures including Pictures auction, the work Guarding the flock sold for GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,643.67) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Barker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The cattle auction, which sold at auction in May 2000 for GBP 15,275.00 (€ 24,510.74).
