This artwork by Johannes Bronckhorst achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2020. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work A Red-Billed Hanging Parrot (Coryllis Exilis) And A Fawn-Breasted Brilliant (Phacolaima Rubinoides) With An Insect And Butterfly sold for USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,902.55) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Johannes Bronckhorst; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Four sheets of studies showing different species of tropical marine fish, including two species of blenny and a butterfly fish (no. 1); a grunt, a parrotfish and a banded butterfly fish (no. 2); a grouper, marbled grouper and butterfly fish (no. 3); sold at auction in July 2011 with the realized price of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 25,822.12
