eight engravings, circa 1680, with hand-coloring, on laid papers, published in Frankfurt, all with margins, all with pale light- staining and surface soiling, minor creasing throughout on several plates, stray printing ink and hand-coloring on several plates, Tab. 68 and Tab. 80 both with areas of moisture staining within the image, otherwise all apparently in good condition, in green burl wood frames and French mats with wash lines and pale green marbled double mats, not examined out of the frames

Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Recueil de Plantes Desinees et Gravees Anciennement: Eight Plates by Jan Theodor de Bry was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,434.00 (€ 1,335.32). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Theodor de Bry achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Florilegium renovatum et auctum, Frankfurt, 1641, coloured plates, calf gilt in May last year with an auction result of GBP 107,100.00 (€ 125,992.95).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Recueil de Plantes Desinees et Gravees Anciennement: Eight Plates von Jan Theodor de Bry im Januar 2003 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.434,00 (€ 1.335,32) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jan Theodor de Bry erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Florilegium renovatum et auctum, Frankfurt, 1641, coloured plates, calf gilt im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 107.100,00 (€ 125.992,95).
