In September 2007 Christies in New York held the auction Fine American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work While Poets Sleep by Jimmy Ernst. The »bidding war« ended at USD 18,750.00 (€ 13,186.58), 56% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jimmy Ernst; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Imminence sold at auction in March 2006 with the realized price of USD 21,600.00 (€ 17,793.89).

Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 18.750,00 (€ 13.186,58) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Jimmy Ernst; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Imminence im März 2006 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 21.600,00 (€ 17.793,89).
