Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Perceval Seeth the Questing Beast by Jessie Marion King was auctioned at Bonhams in Edinburgh in October last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 2,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 8,287.50 (€ 9,654.85). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jessie Marion King - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'No Goblin or Swart Faëry Hath Hurtfull Power' - illustration to John Milton's 'Comus', which sold at auction in December last year for GBP 17,640.00 (€ 19,913.84).
