In March last year Christies in New York held the auction South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Including Works from the Collection of Mahinder and Sharad Tak, which included the work In the Ambush of a Calm by Jehangir Sabavala. The »bidding war« ended at USD 529,200.00 (€ 477,057.60), 51% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jehangir Sabavala - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Embarkation, which sold at auction in September 2021 for USD 1,590,000.00 (€ 1,373,412.80).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 51 % übertroffen
Im März letzten Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Including Works from the Collection of Mahinder and Sharad Tak durch, in der auch die Arbeit In the Ambush of a Calm von Jehangir Sabavala zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 529.200,00 (€ 477.057,60) und damit 51% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Jehangir Sabavala mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Embarkation beobachtet, die im September 2021 für USD 1.590.000,00 (€ 1.373.412,80) versteigert wurde.
