Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Lion in the Desert by Jean-Léon Gérôme was auctioned at Sothebys in London in March last year. The price achieved of GBP 37,800.00 (€ 44,816.15) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Léon Gérôme achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Riders Crossing The Desert in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 3,135,000.00 (€ 3,636,375.17).

Die Arbeit Lion in the Desert von Jean-Léon Gérôme kam im März letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in London zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 37.800,00 (€ 44.816,15) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean-Léon Gérôme erzielen.
