A top price for Jean-Léon Gérôme - as previously expected
The work Riders Crossing The Desert by Jean-Léon Gérôme was auctioned at Sothebys in London in October 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000,000.00 – 5,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,135,000.00 (€ 3,636,375.17) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Riders Crossing The Desert is the most expensive artwork by Jean-Léon Gérôme that we have observed at auctions so far.
