Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Le Christ enfant sur un âne (The Young Christ on a donkey) by Jean-Léon Gérôme was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 10,080.00 (€ 11,820.89) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Léon Gérôme achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Riders Crossing The Desert in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 3,135,000.00 (€ 3,636,375.17).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 10.080,00 (€ 11.820,89) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
