Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Lindenia: Iconographie des Orchidées: Six Plates by Jean Jules Linden was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,200.00 (€ 904.02). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean Jules Linden achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pescatorea. Iconographie des Orchidées. Brussels: M. Hayez, 1860. Volume I (all published), 2° (445 x 317mm). Half-title. 48 hand-coloured lithographic plates by F. Detollenaere after Detollenaere and Maubert. Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Lindenia: Iconographie des Orchidées: Six Plates von Jean Jules Linden im Februar 2005 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.200,00 (€ 904,02) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean Jules Linden erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Pescatorea.
